Description:
NCEP ADP Global Surface Observational Weather Data are composed of surface weather reports operationally collected by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). The data includes land and marine surface reports received via the Global Telecommunications System (GTS). Variables recorded in the reports include pressure, air temperature, dew point temperature, wind direction and speed. Precipitation data has been decoded for the U.S. and Canada. Report intervals range…

Description:
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Climate Forecast System (CFS) is initialized four times per day (0000, 0600, 1200, and 1800 UTC). NCEP upgraded their operational CFS to version 2 on March 30, 2011. This is the same model that was used to create the NCEP Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR), and the purpose of this dataset is to extend CFSR. The 6-hourly atmospheric, oceanic and land surface analyzed products and forecasts, available at 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.5 degr…

Description:
These NCEP FNL (Final) Operational Global Analysis data are on 1-degree by 1-degree grids prepared operationally every six hours. This product is from the Global Data Assimilation System (GDAS), which continuously collects observational data from the Global Telecommunications System (GTS), and other sources, for many analyses. The FNLs are made with the same model which NCEP uses in the Global Forecast System (GFS), but the FNLs are prepared about an hour or so after the GFS is initialized. …

Description:
This dataset contains a subset of the level 1b or higher satellite data products used in the NCEP Global Data Assimilation System. These files can be used with the Weather Research Forecast (WRF) Data Assimilation (DA) system. However, they can be useful for a variety of applications, particularly where conventional data is scarce. File sizes may vary due to operational changes.

Description:
The International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS) is a global ocean marine meteorological and surface ocean dataset. It is formed by merging many national and international data sources that contain measurements and visual observations from ships (merchant, navy, research), moored and drifting buoys, coastal stations, and other marine and near-surface ocean platforms. Each marine report contains individual observations of meteorological and oceanographic variables, such as sea …

Description:
JMA is currently conducting the Japanese Reanalysis for Three Quarters of a Century (JRA-3Q), which covers the period from September 1947 onward to extend the current period of data coverage and improve the quality of long-term reanalysis. The project involves a sophisticated data assimilation system (based on the operational set-up as of December 2018) incorporating development results from the operational NWP system and sea surface temperature analysis achieved since JRA-55 (based on the oper…

There are 956 public datasets in the RDA. The RDA dataset search allows you to search for datasets by keyword and filter by facets. Facet descriptions are given below, including the number of datasets (in parentheses) in each.

Variable / Parameter (956)
A variable or parameter is the quantity that is measured, derived, or computed - e.g. the data value.
Type of Data (956)
This refers to the type of data values - e.g. grid (interpolated or computed gridpoint data), platform observation (in-situ and remotely sensed measurements), etc.
Time Resolution (243)
This refers to the distance in time between discrete observation measurements, model product valid times, etc.
Platform (956)
The platform is the entity or type of entity that acquired or computed the data (e.g. aircraft, land station, reanalysis model).
Spatial Resolution (372)
This refers to the horizontal distance between discrete gridpoints of a model product, reporting stations in a network, measurements of a moving platform, etc.
Topic / Subtopic (956)
Topic and subtopic are high-level groupings of parameters - e.g. Atmosphere (topic), Clouds (subtopic of Atmosphere).
Project / Experiment (274)
This is the scientific project, field campaign, or experiment that acquired the data.
Supports Project (51)
This refers to data that were acquired to support a scientific project or experiment (e.g. GATE) or that can be used as ingest for a project (e.g. WRF).
Data Format (954)
This refers to the structure of the bitstream used to encapsulate the data values in a record or file - e.g ASCII, netCDF, etc.
Location (112)
This is the name of the (usually geographic) location or region for which the data are valid.
