Goals:
To quantify gas-phase product yields and the SOA yield from nighttime NO3-initiated chemistry of a-pinene using N2O5. This experiment in particular targeted RO2 + NO3 and RO2 + NO chemistry by using a high N2O5/pinene ratio and moderate initial NO/pinene ratio.
Summary:
a-pinene, NOx, and seed aerosol were injected into the chamber and allowed to mix, followed by N2O5, which quickly dissociated to NO2 and NO3. a-pinene decayed rapidly by reaction with NO3. Gas phase was monitored by CF3O- CIMS and particle formation by SMPS. After all injections, a DNPH cartridge was collected for offline HRMS analysis.
