 Look for Data
A quantity that is measured, computed, or derived (e.g. - temperature, precipitation amount, etc.)
Loading...
The type of data values - e.g. grid (interpolated or computed gridpoints), platform observation (in-situ or remotely sensed measurements, etc.
Loading...
The time distance between discrete observation measurements, model product valid times, etc. A time resolution of "Hourly to < Daily" means data that occurs more often than once per day but no more often than once per hour.
Loading...
The entity that acquired or computed the data (e.g. - aircraft, land station, reanalysis model)
The horizontal distance between discrete gridpoints, stations, measurements, etc.
Loading...
Topic and subtopic are high-level groupings of parameters (e.g. - Atmosphere (topic), Clouds (subtopic of Atmosphere) ).
The scientific project or experiment that acquired the data
Loading...
Data that were acquired to support a project/experiment (e.g. - GATE) or that can be used as ingest for a project (e.g. - WRF)
Loading...
The structure of the bitstream used to encapsulate the data values in a record or file (e.g - ASCII, netCDF, etc.)
Loading...
The name of the location or region for which the data are valid

  General Software

This page contains links to various general software that is applicable to many of our datasets, or that, while not applicable to our specific datasets, may be useful to any user of meteorological and oceanographic data.

    • BUFR Decoders

      • Compression Utilities
These utilities allow PC manipulation of Unix compress/uncompress files and Unix manipulation of PC zip/unzip files.

      • Conversion Library
This library contains source codes that will perform various character and floating point conversions.

      • File and Device I/O Routines
We maintain source codes for performing various file and device input/output operations. These codes include routines that read and write various file formats (e.g. - COS-blocked files, our RPTIN/RPTOUT format) and routines for reading from and writing to tape drives.

      • GBYTES/SBYTES Library
GBYTES and SBYTES are packages used by many of our access routines to handle the unpacking and packing of binary data values. We have Fortran, C, and C++ code for a variety of different computer systems.

      • GRIB Library
GRid In Binary is a WMO standard format for the efficient exchange of gridded binary data. We maintain a library of Fortran and C routines for converting grids into and out of the GRIB format.

      • GrADS
The Grid Analysis and Display System can be used to graphically display gridded and observational data. You can obtain GrADS for the Sun or IBM PC from us. For most other UNIX platforms, you can obtain a version from the GrADS web server.

      • Grid Interpolations
This library contains source codes which generate information about grids and interpolate polar-stereographic grids to latitude-longitude grids.

      • Meteorological Calculations
We have various codes which are useful for performing calculations of common meteorological parameters.

      • Systems Information
You can get information about various computer systems here. The information is intended to help you run our routines and programs on your computer.

The Research Data Archive is managed by the Data Support Section of the Computational and Information Systems Laboratory at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. NCAR is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
