The grids in this dataset are in WMO GRIB Edition 1 format. Most of the parameters are specified with the standard codes from GRIB Code Table 2, but a few are specified using a DSS-defined extension to the parameter table. A description of the GRIB format is available in the General Documentation section of our website, under Format Descriptions.

We also have the original daily data on the NCAR MSS in the native ASCII format. You can access these data with an NCAR computing account or by request to Bob Dattore.
